You know her. In fact, she might even live under your very own roof. The Wild Child. Uh huh. You know her. She's the one who insisted on going to Home Depot on a Tuesday in July in her cowboy boots, tiara and sequined dress...just because...when she was 4. She's the "fun" one. LIfe of the party. The one who you can't help but love and giggle at -- even when she's most naughty.

So Valentine's Day is two short weeks away. We're thinking that the Wild Child is NOT going to be okay with just any ole' sign of affection. Here's where we can help you out. Wild Child Bling . Named after her. Because we love her spunk and spirit and never, ever want her to change.

Swimsuits

Hello Angel Faces!

A couple weeks ago, whilst in Minneapolis, a cute little girl came up to us and asked us why we were selling swimsuits. We just looked at her for a minute and then at each other and then back at her. And then two things dawned on us. First of all, it was 6 degrees outside so anything that remotely resembled swimwear was suspect and questionable. And second, she'd never seen a halter top used for dancewear.

So we sweetly explained to her that the tops (she was looking at the Paige outfits) are actually reversable tops that can be worn alone or under another top as a layer. The shorts are, well shorts, so we weren't sure about any confusion there.

In Arizona, where we reside (and it's NOT 6 degrees--ever), it gets HOT in the summer. So hot, in fact, that the thought of lycra on one's tummy whilst dancing full-out is down-right unimaginable! Enter the Paige outfits. And the Angelbling of course.

In the spirit of full disclosure, we will admit that our girls, on occasion, have been known to jump into the hotel pool in the Paige outfits at lunchtime when the opportunity presents itself. After all, they are cute enough to pass for use poolside in a pinch!

Competition Season is here!

Hello Angel Faces!

Minneapolis was great! We decided not to post from there, because all we would have talked about was how cold it was (5 degrees, 6 degrees, minus 1 -- you get the idea). We figured you could just go to Weather.com if you wanted that much detail!

So now we're back to 75 degrees (oops - weather info again! Sorry!) and we're getting ready for a trunk show today at Dance Connection 2 . "What's this have to do with Competition Season?" you ask. Well, everything actually.

We started Angel Face Designs five years ago because of Competition Season. Auditions, in fact. Oh -- and lost shoes. You can read all about it here . Our bright, well-crafted dancewear originated because we got tired of trying to find our girls in a see of darlings. And if WE couldn't find them, then that might be a clue come audition time... So we've work hard to find fantastic fabrics that can stand up to the demands of full-out dancers AND help them stand-out just like they should! For example:

These girls are not going to get lost in the crowd in these outfits. They'll get noticed as they let their talent shine!

Heading to Minneapolis...

Hi Angel Faces!

We've been busy! As we were getting ready for this weekend's West Coast Dance Explosion convention/competition in Minneapolis, we realized that we have a lot of stuff that we're ready to clear out to make way for our fabulous new dancewear. So much so that we held an impromptu sale at DC2 on Wednesday. Lots of $15 opportunities for our friends! We'll be continuing our clearance sale next week online so watch for details!

So now we're just finishing up our packing and getting ready to head to the airport for our trip to Minneapolis. Whilst writing this, we're struggling with our desire to whine about leaving our 70 degree temperatures for the frozen tundra. But we'll avoid the whining for today. Tomorrow, however, will likely be a different story.

Happy New Year Angel Faces!

We hope you had a great holiday and that 2011 will be a wonderful year for you and yours.

We had fantastic holidays. Tricia, Shaun and their Angel Faces headed to California for their annual familypalooza. Jamie, Paul and their Angel Faces went to Flagstaff to play in the snow before Christmas. We were all back in the Valley in time for New Years.

Our girls are back to rehearsals and choreography and practices, oh my! They're gearing up for the competitive dance season. Niki and Maddie dance at Dance Connection 2 in Arizona. They've been together since they were 4 -- where does the time go?!

We're getting ready to head out to Minneapolis next week for WCDE . January in Minnesota. What were we thinking?! Oh ya -- that we love our friends and customer in the twin cities so we're going to brave the cold to hang out with them for a weekend. Can't wait!

Sparkle Dazzle

Ho ho ho Angel Faces!

One of the best parts about having daughters who dance are all of the cool moms we've had the opportunity to meet and befriend (it's how we met after all). One of those cool moms has just happened to open up her very own super fun and sparkly dance store called Sparkle Dazzle (don't you just love the name?!).

We love that Natasha (aka cool mom and dance store owner) has decided to carry many of our Angel Face Designs outfits in her store. The Christmas Rush

Merry Christmas Angel Faces!

This is a great time of year. Lots of Christmas fun and activities with the kids (we've been baking and decorating, oh my!)...and lots of business activity as we help Santa and the elves deliver on Christmas wishes and dreams. We're getting ready to wrap things up (wink!) since the kiddos are out of school tomorrow for winter break.

So...if your Angels have any last items on their list that you need to help Santa with (hint, hint) before Christmas, please place your order NO LATER THAN Saturday, December 17th. We will be closing on Sunday, December 18th to spend Christmas with our families (you can still place orders after December 17th but the orders will not be filled until the week of December 27th).

Bella and Edward -- Where are you?!

So we had a blast in Baton Rouge. Business was great and it was so much fun to run into customers we've met in other locations who happen to live in Louisiana. We were amazed by the wonderful food and lovely hospitality. A kinder group of people we have not met.

Speaking of not meeting...it's true. We tried to find Bella and Edward (okay, we know they're not real people, but Kristen and Robert ARE and we did not see them either). Neither did we see Alice nor her real life BF, Joe Jonas. So we did what any group of Twi-hards would do...we went to all of the places that US and People said they hang out and we did the same. (Sad, we know...don't judge us). We went to Tsunami for sushi and Urban Outfitters (where the Jo-bro was spotted). The girls even stood outside of the alleged place where Kristen and Robert are staying. Oh well...it was much fun and the girls came home with some really cute stuff from Urban Outfitters so all was not lost. Oh -- and the calamari at Tsunami was the best we've ever had. Seriously.

Angel Face in the Big Easy

We made it! We left Thursday night from Phoenix and flew to Charlotte and then on to New Orleans on Friday morning. USAirways always cringes when we roll up to check our luggage...

Once we hit NOLA, we headed for the French Quarter and shopping! As promised, after shopping (LOVED the mask shops!) we went to Johnny's for lunch...

and then Cafe du Monde for an afternoon snack...

We took a carriage tour (the educational part of our trip...wink, wink)

Unfortunately, the valet driver took a turn too closely and did this to our rental car...

Several incident reports later, we made our way to Baton Rouge. What a great, quick trip!

We were so excited to see our friends, Linda and Ashley, at West Coast Dance Explosion in Baton Rouge this morning. They are so professional and everything is always put together and super easy (which we appreciate when we roll up at 6 am to set up).

WCDE always has such a great base of dancers and customers and we're super busy this morning. We've even reconnected with some friends we made in Las Vegas last summer. Love it!

Tonight, we're going Twilight stalking (they're filming in Baton Rouge). We'll let you know tomorrow about our fun night out.

Stew and Scotcheroos

Stew and Chocolate Scotcheroos was what we had for dinner last night. Yep, we even all eat together when we're getting ready to go on trips. It seems so easy to get ready to travel, but in reality, there's a heck-of-a-lot of running around that goes on in order for Angel Face Designs to hit the road. So we're going to keep on keepin' on, but while we're busy, we thought we'd share this recipe with you for Chocolate Scotcheroos

(We substituted half of the butterscotch morsels with peanut butter chips instead. Just personal preference.) BTW...this plate was FULL yesterday but will be empty by dinner tonight. Where are those stretchy jeans???!! Heaven help us!

Lists, lists, and more lists!

Hello Angel Faces,

Did we mention that we're heading out-of-town this weekend to Baton Rouge for West Coast Dance Explosion ? Well, we are. And that means we are knee-deep in lists of all lengths and kinds...what kinds of lists you might ask? Well...here are some of the lists that we're making:

1) Tricia's family schedule for her husband, two boys and two dogs (baseball all weekend -- check!)
2 Jamie's family schedule for her husband, son, 3 dogs and 9 chickens (football game Saturday morning -- check!)
3-6) Packing lists for Tricia, Maddie, Jamie and Niki
7) Grocery lists to shop for and cook before leaving on Thursday (see lists #1-2)
8-15) Laundry lists (see lists # 1-6)
16-17) Christmas lists (hello...Santa needs some help here!)

and, by the way, the packing lists for everything we're taking for Angel Face Designs booth at WCDE.

If that weren't enough, we also have lists going for fabric orders, special dancewear orders, a big new order for a new retail customer in Alabama (more on that in another post) and lists to fulfill orders from our big holiday sale.

Yikes! We better get crack-a-lackin on the checking off and crossing out or we're never going to get out of here! See you in Baton Rouge!

N'awlins

Hey there Angel Faces!

We're gearing up for our trip down south later this week for WCDE in Baton Rouge. Woo-Hooo! We can't wait! Our Angel Faces have never been to N'awlins, so we thought we'd head out early on the red-eye (ugh!) and spend Friday engaging in an educational tour before heading to Baton Rouge...

So, we will definitely take in the culturally significant parts of New Orleans, and witness the ongoing clean-up from Hurricane Katrina, but we'd be lying if we didn't also say that we're dreaming of

from Cafe du Monde.

It wouldn't be a true N'awlins experience if we didn't take the girls to get a Po' Boy at Johnny's (any sandwich that has it's own festival is a must in our book!)

And we'd be less-than-truthful if we didn't say that it just wouldn't be an authentic visit to New Orleans without trying some gumbo.

If there's anywhere else you think we MUST visit (or eat!) while in New Orleans (or on our drive to Baton Rouge), let us know (please!)

Giving Thanks

Happy Thanksgiving Angel Faces!

We are counting our blessings and they are abundant. We are thankful for our families, our freedom and our health.

We are thankful for our business and the friends we've made because of Angel Face Designs .

We are grateful to the dance teachers, studio owners, convention owners/teachers/managers who we have the privilege of knowing and calling "friend".

We feel blessed that our children have learned so much about friendship, teamwork, and life as a result of dance. Many of the friendships they (and we) have made are life long. For that we are grateful.

We appreciate the vendors we work with and the people and organizations that supply Angel Face Designs with fabrics, zippers, etc. We apreciate the quality, dedication and professionalism we have experienced during this journey.

We have heartfelt gratitude for our seamstresses...Nancy, Carol and Mary, and their families. We've come to think of them as part of our own families.

We wish you a weekend filled with the awareness of the many blessings in each of our lives. Know that we are grateful for you.

Everything's better with bling

Hello Angel Faces!

Back in the good ole days (let's say...2007), we were so excited to introduce AngelBling© to the danceworld. We were seeing blingy trends in kids' clothing but, outside of competitive costumes, dancewear was a bit blah. But not for long. Because, as a life philosophy we subscribe to: everything's better with bling! Especially dancewear that helps a dancer stand out in the crowd at auditions or in dance class. After all...who doesn't love to be all sparkly and bright?!

So, here we are, nearly four years later and bling is still good. And pretty. And shiny. And if you're a girl, sparkles just make you feel better. About everything. The world is just a brighter, shinier, happier place.

And that's why we continue to offer Angelbling© in all of it's sparkly, happy, look-at-me-I'm-so-beautiful-I-need-to-twirl-and-leap-and-spin glory. Banded versus non-banded

This is not about boys and bands (although we have some opinions about that since we are mothers to high school-age daughters AND we have pre-teen boys as well -- that's another post...) Actually, this is about the fact that we have very strong opinions about banded shorts. Wait! Before you go read The Pioneer Woman's blog, at least hear us out. You, too, might find that you have an opinion or two about banded shorts after all.

Okay, here's the thing. No one wants their legs to look like sausages. And, unfortunately, that's what A LOT of other banded shorts make girls legs look like. It's not pretty. And it's why, at first, we needed some convincing. That's where our friend, Jo, comes in. You see, Jo is this amazing mom, friend, and former "Family and Consumer Science" (known in our time as "home ec") teacher. Our Angel Faces have grown up dancing with her Angel Face Paige. Anyways...we're not talking out of turn here when we tell you that Paige did not like banded shorts. And if you have ever seen her long gorgeous legs, you know that it wasn't because they made them look like sausages. It was because they were too tight and uncomfortable. And who needs that? Especially when you're nine?!

Back to Jo...we were chatting with her about the pros and cons of banded dance shorts. Pros: privacy (hellooo), comfort (no riding up thank you very much), appearance (consistent coverage regardless of body type). Cons: did we mention sausage legs? And then we did what any non-sewing good friends will do to the other, outnumbered one who can sew: we begged her and begged her to make a pattern that Paige would like and wear. Finally, she relented (did we mention how amazingly nice she is?? She's from Nebraska. Makes sense.) And Paige now wears banded shorts.

And that's where our amazingly comfortably, non-sausage leg Angel Face Shorts came from. We weren't geniuses, but Jo is. So, if you've ever doubted the reason for banded shorts for your competitive dancer, then try ours before you completely rule them out. We bet that you'll find that they are your daughter's favorite short and the only one she wants to wear. And if you see Jo, tell her thanks.

Gearing Up for Competition Season

Hello Angel Faces!

Just like many of you, we are gearing up for another competitive dance season. Hurray! For the past many years, our daughters have been fortunate enough to be part of a terrific group of dancers that compete locally as well as nationally. If you have a competitive dancer in your life, then you know how crazy it can be to get things together for competition season. Costumes, shoes, tights, eyelashes, etc. And if your dancer attends master classes at the competitions, then add in the need for dancewear that helps her stand out in the crowd. It can be a bit overwhelming...

We add to that craziness (which we love) by also travelling with (and without) our girls to several cities to bring you Angel Face Designs dancewear and dancebags at competitions. In the past, we've been fortunate to have vendor booths at competitions including NYCDA, LA Dance Magic, Coastal Dance Rage, CO Dance, and WCDE.

We are really excited to be getting things together for our first city with WCDE: Baton Rouge on December 4-5. None of us have been to Baton Rouge, so we're hoping to add in some sight-seeing while we're there (any tips or recommendations?) As we get closer to heading out, we'll take some pictures to show you what we look like when we travel.

In the meantime, we're also finalizing our plans for our upcoming holiday sale (stay tuned...more on that this week). Our seamstresses are putting final touches on new designs for this winter. We'll showcase them and some of our ideas here in the coming weeks as well.
